Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will establish an international campus in Indonesia, marking a major step in educational cooperation between the two countries and expanding the institute's presence in Southeast Asia.
Speaking alongside Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto after bilateral talks in Jakarta, Modi said the proposed campus would benefit students and professionals across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.
"We are going to establish a campus of India's prestigious management institute, IIM Bangalore, in Indonesia, which will greatly benefit the youth across the entire ASEAN region," Modi said.

The announcement came as India and Indonesia signed agreements to strengthen cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, telecommunications, digital public infrastructure and startup ecosystems. Modi described the initiatives as part of a "golden chapter" in bilateral ties.
The proposed campus builds on a memorandum of understanding signed July 6 between IIM Bangalore and the Singhasari Special Economic Zone, where the international campus is expected to be located. The agreement was signed in Jakarta in the presence of Indian and Indonesian government officials and IIM Bangalore representatives.
According to the institute, the project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will introduce short-duration executive education programs, followed by degree-granting academic programs in the second phase.
The Indonesia campus will offer executive education for senior leaders and professionals, with courses covering management, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, global supply chains, climate and sustainability, and healthcare. IIM Bangalore said the initiative will also promote research collaborations, faculty development, consulting partnerships, student exchanges and industry engagement across Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.
U. Dinesh Kumar, director-in-charge of IIM Bangalore, said the partnership would help develop future business leaders for Indonesia and global corporations. The institute added that students who enroll will also have access to its online learning platform and massive open online courses as part of the initiative.
