Houston firm symplr appoints Venkat Kavarthapu as CEO

Kavarthapu, a healthcare technology executive with over 25 years of experience, takes charge to lead the company’s next phase of AI-driven growth.

Houston-based healthcare operations  company symplr appointed Venkat Kavarthapu as its chief executive officer on April 13.

Kavarthapu succeeds Chris Colpitts, who has served as interim CEO since November 2025. Colpitts will continue as executive chairman of the Board and support the leadership transition, the firm announced.

As CEO, Kavarthapu is expected to lead symplr’s efforts to expand its enterprise platform and scale artificial intelligence-driven solutions for healthcare organizations.

“We believe Venkat brings a strong combination of enterprise software knowledge and operational leadership, along with a deep understanding of the challenges healthcare organizations face today,” said  Colpitts.“Venkat’s success in scaling healthcare technology platforms and delivering practical, data-driven innovation makes him the right leader to drive symplr’s new phase of growth through next-generation, AI-powered enterprise software,” said Prashant Mehrotra of Clearlake and Ryan Carroll of Charlesbank.

“I see a significant opportunity to harness AI to help healthcare organizations reduce operational complexity and improve the quality of care,” Kavarthapu said.

Kavarthapu brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare technology, with a focus on scaling software businesses and building enterprise platforms. He previously served as chief executive officer of Edifecs, where he expanded the company’s health data management platform serving payers and providers across the United States. 

He also led Edifecs through its acquisition by Cotiviti in 2025, integrating its platform with analytics capabilities aimed at improving cost efficiency and care outcomes.

Before that, Kavarthapu held leadership roles at Cotiviti and spent over a decade at Edifecs in product and services leadership. He began his career at Wipro Technologies, where he worked in client engagement for more than 12 years.

Kavarthapu holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow and a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication engineering from Osmania University.
