Un-American': Reps. Bera and Subramanyam on Ogles’ Muslim remark
Representative Andy Ogles made troubling comments after reports came in about an attempted terrorist attack in NYC.

Congressman Ami Bera has called for bipartisan condemnation of the anti-Muslim comments made by Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles.
Ogles, a Republican congressman, has been at the receiving end of public backlash after he said, “Muslims don’t belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie.”
He has previously sparked controversy for his anti-Muslim comments on multiple occasions, including a call for denaturalization and deportation of then-New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

Rep. Bera described Ogles’ comments as “vile and un-American,” and remarked, “The First Amendment protects freedom of religion, and that includes our Muslim neighbors, friends, and fellow Americans.”
He added, “My Republican colleagues must condemn this pure and unbridled bigotry.”

Congressman Suhas Subramanyam responded to the controversy by posting pictures of him celebrating iftar with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Northern Virginia and the All Dulles Area Muslim Society.
Rep. Subramanyam noted, “Muslims — and people of all faiths — belong in America. Hate does not.”
Reactions also poured in from other Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who went on to call Ogles a “malignant clown.”
Rep. Bera’s calls for a bipartisan response came through with multiple Republican condemnations. A key figure from the other side of U.S. politics, Republican Richard Grenell, responded to Ogles’ post and said, “Stop attacking the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.” Grenell is a special envoy for President Donald Trump and the interim president of the Kennedy Center.

Andy Ogles made the troubling comments after reports came in about an attempted terrorist attack in New York City, where federal prosecutors have said the two suspects are aligned with ISIS.
