In a move that will significantly improve efficiency and convenience, the United Kingdom has switched to an exclusively digital format for visas, starting Feb. 25. With the eVisa system in place, passengers will no longer need physical stickers on their passports indicating their visa approval.

The UK Government, on its official website, noted that eVisas will show the holder's identity and immigration status. This includes what rights the person has in the UK, for example to work, rent or claim benefits.

Additionally, under the new system, eVisa holders can get a share code to prove their immigration status  without divulging all the details or having to show your visa.

Visa holders would be able to send the share code with other people such as employers or landlords, who will be able to view some of the details on the eVisa and will thereby balance transparency and privacy.

The eVisas can be accessed via UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) accounts.

Sharing the news on X, The British High Commission in India said, "The UK immigration system is going digital. From today, visitors to the UK who need a visa will receive an eVisa only. #eVisas replace visa vignette stickers in passports."

Applicants, however, will still need to visit the Visa Application Centre (VAC) for biometric enrolment and identity verification and will also be required to submit their passport, but passports will be returned the same day.
