Rahul Kanadia, an Indian-origin associate professor at the University of Connecticut, leads an undergraduate research initiative that rethinks how students engage with basic concepts in genetics through his LEAP program.

Kanadia, who teaches in the physiology and neurobiology department, developed the Learning by Experiencing and Applying Principles (LEAP) program to give first- and second-year students early exposure to research. The program spans three semesters and combines theory, scientific writing, and laboratory work in a structured but low-pressure setting.
