The Consulate General of India in Sydney announced on June 21 that its mango festival has been indefinitely postponed.
Planned in collaboration with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the festival was branded as an opportunity to experience the "authentic taste of India" at the Indian Mango Festival 2026, by CGI Sydney.
Originally scheduled for Harvey Lowe Pavilion at Castle Hill, the Consulate remarked that the event will have to be rescheduled due to a delay in clearing the mangoes from the airport.

CGI Sydney noted, "The CGI would like to thank the mango lovers for expressing overwhelming enthusiasm and thank their kind understanding and cooperation. The planned mango festival could not showcase Indian mangoes as originally planned and scheduled, due to unexpected long delay in the clearance of mango consignment at the Sydney airport."
It continued, "As soon as the consignment is received, the mango festival would be held at the earliest. The date and venue will be shared with the mango lovers accordingly."
CGI Sydney faced heavy criticism online after the announcement with many noting that the cancellation announcement came in too late. Users noted that they found out about the cancellation after they reached the venue after a long journey and criticized the consulate for not only the cancellation but also for its failure to convey the message sooner.
CGI Sydney announced the cancellation on Social media late on June 21 night, hours after the event's scheduled time, prompting one user to note, "A courtesy update earlier today would have saved many attendees the time, fuel, and effort of travelling to the venue."
Another user noted, "It would have been great if you could please inform us in advance. I love promoting our Indian culture and asked many of my friends to come to our Indian Mango festival and support our community. It was so embarrassing to see people driving all the way from Canberra to such a disappointment!!"
