Sikhs of America condemns terrorist attack in Australia

Sikhs of America, a Sikh organization in the United States, has released a statement addressing the terrorist attack in Bondi, Australia, on Dec. 14, that targeted members of the Jewish community.
A terrorist mass shooting took place at Bondi Beach in Sydney, during a large Hanukkah celebration hosted by the Chabad of Bondi.
Reports suggested that about sixteen people were killed, including a child and one of the two alleged shooters, with the second shooter in custody.
In their statement, Sikhs of America condemns the terrorist attack, mentioning that this act of violence against civilians is “an assault on humanity itself and an attack on the shared values of peace, tolerance, and coexistence.”
The statement read,
“We stand in unwavering solidarity with the Jewish community in Australia and around
the world during this moment of profound grief and pain. Our thoughts and prayers are
with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act of hatred.
Violence driven by extremism and bigotry has no place in any society and must be
confronted with unity and moral clarity.”
The incident involved a bystander, who intervened and disarmed one of the gunmen. Sikhs of America acknowledged Ahmed Al Ahmed’s courage and efforts that helped save several and wrote,
“We also offer our deepest prayers and respect to the courageous bystander, Ahmed Al Ahmed, whose extraordinary bravery in confronting the terrorist helped save several innocent lives. His selfless actions are a powerful reminder that humanity, courage, and compassion can prevail even in the darkest moments.”
Sikhs of America concluded the statement by calling upon all communities, faith leaders, and governments to stand together against terrorism, antisemitism, and all forms of hatred, and to work
collectively toward a world rooted in peace, mutual respect, and human dignity.
