The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Jan. 16 at Frederick Community College’s Human Performance Lab in Frederick, Maryland.
Internship roles will span information technology, sports marketing, game-day operations, cybersecurity, and business administration, positioning students across both the technology and professional sports sectors.
"At both Washington Freedom and Infinite Computer Solutions, we believe that innovation thrives when we invest in the next generation of talent," Govil said. "This partnership isn't just about providing internships—it's about creating a bridge between the classroom and the global industries of technology and professional sports. We are proud to invest in Frederick County's students and look forward to the fresh perspectives they will bring to our organizations," he added.
The program is designed to strengthen career readiness and support long-term economic development in Frederick County by combining classroom instruction with real-world work experience. It also aligns with broader growth in the U.S. cricket ecosystem, creating new entry points for students into an emerging sports industry alongside established technology roles.
"This partnership with the Washington Freedom expands experiential pathways for our students and aligns seamlessly with Hood's commitment to hands-on, career-ready learning," said Hood College president Debbie Ricker.
"The global growth of cricket and the continued rise of the sports industry create exciting opportunities for our graduates and for Frederick, and we are proud to collaborate with Washington Freedom and FCC to support both the workforce and our region," she added.
Frederick Community College president Annesa Payne Cheek said the partnership would offer students practical exposure and professional mentorship. "I'm grateful that our partnerships with the Washington Freedom and Infinite Computer Solutions will cultivate unique student opportunities for hands-on learning in their fields of interest, their professional development through mentorships, and a future-forward insight into the possibilities of living their best life," she said.
Leaders from all participating organizations attended the MoU signing, along with state and local officials, including Sanjay Rai, the Maryland Secretary of Higher Education, and Michael O'Connor, Mayor of the City of Frederick. The event concluded with a symbolic exchange of institutional pennants and cricket jerseys.
The internship program forms part of Washington Freedom’s broader engagement with Frederick County, including the franchise’s exploration of a potential home cricket park.
