Sanjay Govil, an Indian-American businessman, has been heavily linked to becoming the new owner of the reigning Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), according to a report by The Telegraph.

Multinational alcoholic beverage company Diageo is the current owner of RCB in IPL and WPL.

During a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Board of India, Diageo said it has undertaken a strategic review of its investment in RCB, which is expected to be completed by March 2026.

Reports have suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL Governing Council have been informed of the development, as Diageo intends to focus on its core business and offload sports assets.

Amid this situation, Govil has emerged as a top potential buyer for RCB, which is valued at $2 billion, according to a report in The Telegraph.

Govil is a founding investor in Major League Cricket and the lead team investor and owner of the MLC team, Washington Freedom. He is also a co-owner of the Welsh Fire, a franchise 100-ball cricket side based in the city of Cardiff.

In 1999, Govil became the founding chairman of Infinite Computer Solutions, a global technology platform provider and digital engineering and IT services company. The tech billionaire is also the founder and CEO of Zyter, a cPaaS-based platform focused on digital health products and leveraging connected enterprise technology.
