Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan has been appointed vice chair for Parks for the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Tourism, Arts, Parks, Entertainment and Sports Committee.

In his new role, Mayor Salwan aims to leverage the national platform to enhance Fremont’s own municipal offerings.

“I want to use this role to learn what other cities are doing well, pursue new partnerships and funding opportunities, and bring those ideas back home,” Salwan posted on X.

Highlighting the city’s existing strengths, Salwan emphasized that Fremont has “so much to be proud of — our parks, trails, open spaces and incredible natural setting.”

He expressed a desire to further develop the city as a destination for both residents and visitors, focusing on spaces that support local businesses and highlight the unique character of the community.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is a nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more, serving as a primary forum for municipal leaders to share best practices and influence federal policy. Salwan’s appointment places him in a key position to help shape national dialogue around urban park management and recreation infrastructure.

“When Fremont has a seat at the table, we have an opportunity to bring something back home,” Salwan added, signaling a focus on bringing national insights to local development.

Mayor Salwan, who has served in various capacities in Fremont city government for more than 18 years, including as a councilmember and vice mayor, assumed the mayoral office in December 2024.
