Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan USA and Sneh Arts Foundation will host a celebration of artistic mentorship and Indian classical traditions in New York on June 20.

The event, titled ‘An Evening of Inspiration,' is part of the newly launched Guru-Shishya Parampara Concert Series, an initiative aimed at highlighting the traditional teacher-disciple lineage that has long shaped Indian classical arts while fostering the next generation of performers.

Curated by Sneh Foundation founder Sunny Thakkar, the program will explore how artistic knowledge is inherited, transformed and reimagined across generations and disciplines through a combination of visual art, live music and storytelling.

The evening will open with a presentation of works by New York-based multidisciplinary artist Preeti Varma, whose practice focuses on memory, migration, movement and transformation.

The program will also serve as the release celebration for 24,000 Miles, the new album by internationally acclaimed sitar maestro Hidayat Husain Khan.

In keeping with the concert series’ focus on mentorship, the musical segment will begin with a recital by young sitarist Shraman Sen, a disciple of Khan, accompanied by tabla player Manav Khurana, a disciple of Dibyarka Chatterjee. Organizers said the performance reflects ongoing efforts to provide a platform for emerging artists from the Indian diaspora.

The evening will conclude with a headline performance by Hidayat Husain Khan and Dibyarka Chatterjee.

“This evening is more than a performance; it is a meditation on the creative force that moves through generations, disciplines, and human connection,” said Thakkar, founder of Sneh Arts Foundation and curator of the event.

“By bringing together music, visual art, and the enduring traditions of Indian classical practice, we hope to create an experience that allows audiences to feel the emotional and spiritual depth from which art emerges,” he added.

The Guru-Shishya Parampara Concert Series was recently launched by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan USA and Sneh Arts Foundation to showcase both acclaimed maestros and emerging artists while emphasizing the role of mentorship in preserving and advancing Indian classical traditions.
