Srujan Akula, co-founder of the company, will transition from the chief executive role to focus on product strategy and execution for DataOS, which the company describes as a data operating system designed to activate enterprise data as AI-ready data products.
Gupta will oversee business scaling, customer partnerships, and efforts to operationalize data and artificial intelligence at an enterprise scale, the firm said. In his previous roles, he led go-to-market strategy and helped expand enterprise adoption of DataOS. The company said his promotion reflects continuity in leadership as the platform scales across large organizations.
“We’re seeing strong product adoption of DataOS across enterprises,” Gupta said. “As DataOS becomes the core activation layer for enterprise data, our focus in the year ahead is disciplined execution, deepening adoption, advancing the product, and helping our customers operate at the speed and scale the AI era demands.”
DataOS is currently used by Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 organizations across multiple sectors, the company said. The platform has been recognized by CIO Review and has received analyst acknowledgment from firms including Gartner and Forrester.
The company said the leadership change aligns with its broader objective of reshaping data management for the AI era. DataOS is positioned as a unified platform that allows enterprises to build and deploy data products, streamline data management, and control costs.
Gupta brings nearly three decades of experience in data, technology, architecture, and strategy across public and private sectors. Before joining The Modern Data Company, he served as head of the data strategy and governance practice at ThoughtWorks.
He also held the role of chief data officer and director of data strategy, operations, and modernization at the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education. Earlier in his career, Gupta held senior data and analytics roles at GE and worked at Oracle, ABB, and Atos.
His academic background includes executive education from MIT Sloan School of Management and studies at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rajiv Gandhi Technical University.
