Manchester consul highlights diaspora support at BAPIO Sushruta Lecture
Consul General outlined engagement with Indian medical and business communities in northern England.

The Consul General of India in Manchester addressed doctors and healthcare professionals at a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session titled the Sushruta Lecture, highlighting the Indian mission's engagement with the diaspora and its support for the medical and business communities in northern England.
According to the Consulate General of India in Manchester, the lecture, organized by the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO), focused on "Supporting the Indian Diaspora – The Role of the Consulate."

In a post on X, the Consulate described the event as "a valuable opportunity to highlight the Consulate's continued engagement with the medical and business community and its commitment to supporting the Indian diaspora."
The Consulate said the Consul General highlighted the contributions of the Indian diaspora to the U.K. economy and its role in strengthening India-U.K. ties.
The mission also thanked BAPIO for hosting the event and acknowledged the association's National Chairman, Prof. J.S. Bamrah, in its post.

The Consulate General of India in Manchester is headed by Vishakha Yaduvanshi, an Indian Foreign Service officer. According to the mission's website, the consulate, located in Gatley, Cheshire, was inaugurated in March 2025 by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Since its inauguration, the mission has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen engagement with the Indian diaspora and local institutions. These include releasing a report on the sports economy between India and Manchester in collaboration with Grant Thornton Bharat and FICCI, meetings with Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, and outreach programs with universities across northern England.
BAPIO represents physicians of Indian origin practicing across the United Kingdom. According to the organization's website, its National Chairman, Prof. J.S. Bamrah, is a senior consultant psychiatrist with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, an Honorary Reader at the University of Manchester, and serves in senior roles with the British Medical Association's Board of Science.
The Sushruta Lecture series is associated with the Sushruta Journal of Health Policy & Opinion, a publication linked to BAPIO's academic and policy initiatives.
The Consulate did not disclose the date, venue or attendance figures for the CPD session in its post.
