Greta Thunberg backs Indian student protests
Thunberg voiced support for India's student protests, urging global solidarity and praising collective action for justice.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has voiced support for recent student protests in India, describing the movement as "a source of hope" and an example of "people power" during an event organized by the Students' Federation of India (SFI) UK in London over the weekend.
Speaking at the event, Thunberg praised the student-led campaign and said it demonstrated what could be achieved when people unite around a common cause.

"The Indian student protest has made us all proud. They have given us hope," Thunberg said.
"They show what we can accomplish when people come together and resist. They show the true meaning of people power."
Thunberg also called for international solidarity with the movement, saying the students' demands should not be viewed solely as a domestic issue.
"The Indian students' struggle for justice and the broader struggle for democracy and liberation is also our struggle," she said.
She added that international support for such movements is important.
The remarks followed a student protest movement that organizers said lasted 36 days. The demonstrations began after allegations of irregularities and a paper leak linked to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, or NEET.
The protests drew wider attention after police action against demonstrators prompted criticism from sections of civil society. The movement also received support from environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, who expressed solidarity with the students.
According to organizers, the protest concluded after the government accepted several of their demands, including measures related to families affected by the controversy and the withdrawal of police cases filed against protesters.
Organizers said the outcome marked a significant milestone but added that their campaign for reforms in the education system would continue.
In a statement, SFI UK described the student movement as "inspiring and courageous." The organization also expressed concern over the reported deaths of students and the police action during the protests.
