Madhubani workshop comes to Houston

A hands-on workshop on the timeless tradition of Madhubani painting will be hosted by the Consulate General of India in Houston, offering community members an opportunity to explore one of India's traditional and vibrant folk art forms.
The workshop will be held on Aug. 10 at the Consulate General of India in Houston.

The Consulate will provide all art materials, and no prior painting experience is required, making the workshop accessible to beginners as well as those familiar with Indian folk art.
Participation in person requires advance registration, with seats limited. Community members can register online.
Those unable to attend in person can participate virtually by registering through the Routes2Roots workshop registration portal and joining the workshop through the Webex platform.
The event is being organized as an opportunity to celebrate India's rich artistic heritage and introduce participants to the timeless tradition of Madhubani painting, the mission said on X.

Madhubani painting, also known as Mithila art, is a traditional folk art form that originated in the Mithila region of Bihar and is known for its vibrant colors, intricate patterns and distinctive line work.
Traditionally created by women on the walls and floors of homes, the art often depicts Hindu deities, nature, animals, geometric patterns and scenes from everyday life. Over generations, Madhubani has evolved from a household tradition into a celebrated art form recognized worldwide while retaining its strong connection to India's cultural and spiritual heritage.
The workshop will offer members of the wider community a chance to experience Indian culture through art and creativity.
