Krishnamoorthi calls for accountability after ICE Operation in Elgin ends in disaster
Local police said several people were treated for chemical irritant exposure during an ICE Operation.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has demanded accountability following reports of a recent ICE operation in Elgin, within his district, that ended in a vehicle crash and the deployment of chemical irritants that exposed nearby residents.
On Dec. 6, a federal agent was involved in a car crash in Elgin, and several people were later treated for exposure to chemical irritants deployed during an immigration enforcement operation, according to local police.
Some tense moments between federal agents and many residents in the neighborhood took place, and at one point, tear gas was deployed into the crowd, as per a report by ABC 7 Chicago.

At least seven people were treated for exposure to the chemical irritants by Elgin police and fire first responders, as per local officials.
Reports have also suggested the possibility of a child being involved in the deployment of chemical irritants.
In an official statement addressing the ICE operation in Elgin, Krishnamoorthi said,
“I am outraged that a brazen ICE operation in Elgin resulted in a car crash and the deployment of chemical irritants that left multiple people needing medical treatment. Spraying tear gas in a residential neighborhood is an unacceptable danger to the community, no matter the circumstances.”
“ICE and DHS must immediately explain how this operation was carried out, why chemical agents were used, and what accountability will follow,” he concluded.
Elgin police mentioned that officers had responded to about 30 calls for service related to the federal operations on Saturday morning and afternoon.
