Of the total amount, CA$50,000 was donated to GlobalMedic, a emergency-response organization providing food kits, hygiene supplies, clean water systems and medical support in disaster-affected regions.
According to a statement, Gupta and members of her team also volunteered with GlobalMedic, assisting in packing emergency kits being sent to communities in western Jamaica.
Additional contributions include CA$30,000 to Food For The Poor Canada to support food distribution, emergency supplies and shelter for displaced families, and CA$25,000 to Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation to fund education-focused rebuilding, community development and long-term recovery initiatives.
Gupta has also extended support to Harmonies of Hope, a fundraising initiative presented by the Jamaica Tourist Board and supported by the Jamaica High Commission in Canada and the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto. The initiative aims to raise funds for rebuilding homes, schools, public spaces and critical infrastructure damaged by the hurricane.
“Every human deserves love, dignity, and care. Jamaica is facing a humanitarian crisis, and in moments like this, we are called to show up for one another,” Gupta said. “Jamaica has given so much to the world—its culture, its music, its spirit—and with such a strong Jamaican diaspora here in Canada, now is our time to give back with love.”
Donette Chin-Loy Chang, who has been involved in mobilizing support for the initiative, said Gupta’s contribution would have a significant impact on recovery efforts.
“We are profoundly grateful for leaders like Reetu who step forward with conviction and compassion,” she said. “In moments of crisis, true leadership is measured by action.”
Angella Bennett, regional director of tourism at the Jamaica Tourist Board, also acknowledged the support. “On behalf of the Jamaica Tourist Board and the people of Jamaica, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Reetu Gupta and The Gupta Group for their support,” Bennett said. “Their contributions are helping communities rebuild and restore essential infrastructure.”
Gupta leads The Gupta Group, a Canada-based real estate and hospitality company, and heads the Gupta Family Foundation, the group’s philanthropic arm.
She was appointed president and chief executive officer of The Gupta Group and Easton’s Group of Hotels in 2018 and later assumed the title of Ambassadress in 2022.
She holds a master of business administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.
