Indian-origin student named Chancellor’s Scholar at Nebraska university

He will be recognized at the Aug. 15 commencement ceremony.

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has recognized Indian graduate Atirath Deb Roy as a Chancellor’s Scholar. 

He will be honored during the university’s combined graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremony on Aug. 15 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. 

Roy from Noida, India, completed his undergraduate studies at the university in 2026 with a 4.0 grade-point average. He earned a Bachelor of Science in PGA Golf Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in economics.

According to the University, Chancellor’s Scholars are students who have maintained a 4.0 grade-point average on all collegiate work at Nebraska and elsewhere.

Roy’s PGA Golf Management program was an accredited program through the PGA of America that combined business, golf operations and player development. His studies included facility management, merchandising, marketing, tournament operations, customer service, teaching and coaching.

His economics studies included microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, as well as economic modeling, data analysis and policy evaluation, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Roy also recently began his professional career in golf. In a LinkedIn post, he said he joined GlenArbor Golf Club as a lead assistant golf professional after completing his final semester at Nebraska. 

He said the role will provide experience in golf operations, player development and member services as he works toward earning PGA of America membership.

The commencement ceremony will bring together graduate and undergraduate students for the university’s Aug. 15 event at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, where Chancellor’s Scholars will be formally recognized for their academic accomplishments.
