Indian-origin Nirmal Singh, 42, of Brampton, has been apprehended and charged in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.
Peel Regional Police revealed that a semi-trailer truck was reported stolen from a repair shop in the area of East Drive and Torbram Road, in Brampton, on Dec. 21.
The following day, officers located the stolen truck in the area of Williams Parkway and Humberwest Parkway. The truck was attached to a previously stolen trailer from Halton Region during the weekend of December 20.
Peel Regional Police issued a statement on Dec. 29, mentioning that officers attempted a traffic stop. The statement read,
“Officers attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicle failed to stop and struck a fully marked police cruiser, causing extensive damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.”
“The stolen truck continued until it became inoperable, at which point the accused fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued, and officers successfully effected the arrest.”
Authorities have also released an 8-second video that shows the moment of impact.
Peel Regional Police have charged Singh, 42, with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime X5, Flight From Police, Dangerous Operation, Possession of Break-in Instruments, and Possession of Automobile Master Key X3.
Further investigation also revealed that Singh is a Canada-wide suspended driver and was additionally charged with Operation While Prohibited X8.
According to authorities, Singh has accumulated 43 convictions since 2017, including 35 Criminal Code offences and eight under the Provincial Offence Act. His record also includes multiple counts of driving while prohibited, impaired operation, failing to stop after a collision, and motor vehicle theft.
