The Indian Nurses Association of New York (INANY) celebrated Nurses Day 2026 on May 9 at The Kerala Center, Elmont, NY.
Described by INANY as a celebration of the “heart behind the profession,” the afternoon event was filled with sessions with inspiring speakers, prizes, food, entertainment and fellowship.
Led by Shlya Roshin, the President of INANY, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, a Registered Nurse and a Clinical Nurse Specialist, the event was attended by nurses, healthcare professionals and other community members who supported the services offered by the nursing community.
The guest-list featured RN Leonard Achan as the chief guest. Achan is a the president & CEO of LiveOnNY and a veteran healthcare executive with over 20 years of leadership experience.

Among other key invitees were New York Assemblymembers Edward C. Braunstein and Michaelle C. Solages along with Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages and North Hempstead Town Clerk Ragini Srivastava.
The event was also attended by New York Attorney General hopeful, Saritha Komatireddy. The former federal prosecutor and Drug Enforcement Administration chief of staff hailed the event and noted that she was “honored to join the Indian Nurses Association of New York for their Nurses Day celebration.”
Komatireddy noted that nurses are on the frontlines of dealing with the rise in crime, drugs, and mental illness. She also highlighted the challenges faced by the nursing community and noted that nurses work long hours, commute early in the morning and late at night, and go to work every day despite a 46 percent rise in felony assaults at NYC hospitals since 2019.
Komatireddy promised the nurses that she “will spend every day working to make New York safer” for the community.
Expressing gratitude for their service, she added, “Thank you to the incredible nurses who care for New Yorkers every day with compassion and dedication.”

INANY celebrates Nurses day annually to “honor the compassion, resilience, and excellence of nurses who faithfully serve our communities every single day”.
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on May 12 to honor the dedication, compassion, and invaluable contributions of nurses worldwide.
It marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and serves as a tribute to the selfless caregivers who work tirelessly for our health and well-being.
