Indian film director SS Rajamouli, the man behind the iconic Baahubali franchise, landed in France to attend the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where he will lead a "Work in Progress" session on Baahubali: The Eternal War.

The upcoming film, directed by Ishan Shukla, is a CGI-animated spin-off of the blockbuster Telugu Baahubali franchise, which began with S.S. Rajamouli's record-breaking films Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017).

The film follows the murdered Prince Baahubali as he enters the afterlife and becomes embroiled in an eternal war spanning 14 realms between the Devas and Asuras — personifications of Order and Chaos — with his destiny set to reshape the entire cosmos.

The project is one of nine upcoming animated features being presented in the prestigious Work in Progress (WIP) sidebar at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where these sessions are considered as sought-after as official screenings.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, founded in 1960 in Annecy, France, is the world's premier animation event and one of the oldest and most influential of its kind.

Held annually in June, it showcases feature films, shorts, student works and immersive projects, while its accompanying Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA) serves as a major hub for industry networking, pitching and deal-making.

Announcing the event, Annecy had previously described the director as the "creator of the mythical Baahubali universe and director of the global phenomenon 'RRR.'"

They further noted, "S.S. Rajamouli is coming to Annecy for an exceptional event celebrating his body of work and spectacular imagination... See you in Annecy to celebrate one of contemporary Indian cinema's greatest storytellers."

Sharing news of Rajamouli's presentation at Annecy, Baahubali protagonist Prabhas said, "Very happy to see Baahubali: The Eternal War represented at the Work in Progress sessions of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026."

He added, "The team is building something truly special. Can't wait for the world to see it."
