FIA Chicago joins Sewa Diwali Food Drive
The annual initiative brings together community groups across the U.S. to collect food for donation during Diwali.

FIA Chicago partnered with Sewa Diwali Food Drive / FIA Chicago
The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago partnered with Sewa Diwali to host a community food drive aimed at supporting local families in need.
The collection, held at Patel Brothers in Schaumburg, focused on gathering non-perishable food items for donation to area food banks and shelters. The effort underscored the Indian American community’s continued emphasis on Seva—selfless service—especially during the festival season.

FIA members and volunteers participated in the drive, with several community members contributing food and resources. “We are glad to contribute and help bring a few smiles by providing food to those in need,” FIA Chicago president Hemant Patel said, extending thanks to donors, supporters, and participants.
Patel also acknowledged FIA executives Amar Upadhyay and vice president Joy (Dipen) Shah, who sponsored food donations on behalf of the organization. “Together, we continue to embody the spirit of Diwali—spreading light, love, and compassion to all,” he added.
The Sewa Diwali Food Drive, launched in 2018, is a nationwide volunteer-led effort coordinated by the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), in partnership with multiple Dharmic faith-based and cultural organizations, including Hindu, Jain, and Sikh groups.
The campaign has grown to reach more than 200 cities across the United States, collectively donating over 1.5 million pounds of food to local pantries and community service centers.
