The Consulate General of India in Edinburgh, in collaboration with Indo-Scot Hindi Connect, will hold Hindi Diwas 2026 celebrations on Sept. 18 to celebrate the linguistic heritage and global significance of the Hindi language among the Indian diaspora in Scotland.

The event will take place at the consulate premises at 17 Rutland Square, Edinburgh.

To encourage widespread participation across generations, organizers are conducting an online essay-writing competition and a live poetry-recitation contest.

Participants are divided into three groups based on age: Junior (up to 12 years), Middle (13 to 18 years) and Senior (19 years and older). Each age category features tailored essay topics ranging from personal reflections such as “India of My Dreams” for younger participants to broader themes such as bilateral relations between India and Scotland, social media’s role in language expansion and environmental preservation for older groups.

Participants in the poetry contest will have the opportunity to perform either self-composed or favorite classic poems during the live event. Outstanding entries and recitations will be recognized with certificates and prizes during the formal program.
