Alex Counts has spent decades in philanthropy, but his current focus is clear: make giving more structured, more strategic, and more consistent.

As executive director of the India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA), Counts is leading an effort to transform how the Indian American diaspora approaches philanthropy, that is, by shifting it from episodic donations to a more disciplined, repeatable practice embedded in community life.

Founded in 2008, IPA operates as a coalition of 24 high-impact nonprofits working across sectors such as healthcare, education, and livelihoods. Its role is not to replace these organizations but to strengthen their ability to raise funds, tell their stories, and engage a diaspora of five to six million people in the United States.
