Held at the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center in Milpitas, the program brought together participants of different ages and backgrounds to take part in yoga and meditation activities aimed at promoting physical health, mental well-being and mindfulness.
Among those attending were Deputy Consul General of India Rakesh Adlakha, Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano, Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan, Milpitas Councilmember William Lam, Planning Commissioner Dipak Awasty, community advocate Ajay Bhutoria and Sister Kusum of the Brahma Kumaris organization, along with other community leaders and residents.
The event featured a guided meditation session led by Sister Kusum and yoga demonstrations conducted by instructors Manoj Joshi and Ambili Sudhakaran. Organizers said the sessions were designed to accommodate both experienced practitioners and newcomers to yoga.
Speakers highlighted yoga’s growing role as a tool for promoting healthy lifestyles, stress management and overall well-being. They noted that yoga has evolved into a global practice that extends beyond physical exercise to include mental and spiritual wellness.
The Association of Indo Americans, a coalition of more than 50 nonprofit organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley, said the event reflected its commitment to fostering community engagement, cultural awareness and health initiatives.
Organizers said the strong turnout demonstrated the increasing popularity of International Day of Yoga celebrations in the Bay Area and growing recognition of yoga’s contribution to healthy aging and community wellness.
