Balvir Singh wins New Jersey State Assembly seat

Punjab-born Singh polled in second in the race with two winners, closely following his democratic peer Carol Murphy.

Indian origin Balvir Singh has been elected to the New Jersey State Assembly from the 7th legislative district.

Running an election campaign prioritizing equity and education, Balvir won the election along with his Democratic peer Carol Murphy in a race with two winners.

Singh bagged 56,826 votes, finishing just below Murphy's 58,643 votes. The two Democratic candidates cumulatively garnered over 66 percent of the votes, making it a clean sweep for the Democrats.

Singh had previously won the Democratic primaries in June 2025, defeating Bordentown Township Mayor Eric Holliday.

Born in a small village in Punjab, India, Singh had moved to the U.S. as a child and went on to graduate from Burlington City High School.
