American woman praises India healthcare access

Viral video highlights faster care, lower costs in India compared to U.S. system

An American woman has drawn attention online after praising India’s healthcare system, contrasting it with her experiences in the United States in a video shared March 21.

The woman, identified as Liz Bomes, posted a clip on Instagram describing what she called the ease and affordability of accessing medical care in India. The video has since gained widespread traction, with viewers responding to her comparison of healthcare systems in both countries.

In the video, Bomes uses humor and sarcasm to describe her experience. “Here's something that's really annoying about India: healthcare actually works. Instead of waiting six months for an appointment or paying thousands of dollars just to get a basic blood test done, I can literally walk into a hospital, see a doctor the same day, and pay next to nothing.”

She contrasts this with her experience in the United States. “Where's the suspense? Where's the dramatic, your insurance doesn't cover this moment? It's way more exciting in the US to call 50 different clinics, just to beg for an appointment, and then go into debt after. India stop making life so easy.”

The video prompted a range of responses online, with many users echoing her observations. Some viewers said they related to the differences in access and cost between the two countries. One user wrote that getting a same-day appointment in India was still surprising after moving from the United States. Another said the sarcasm reflected a broader reality, adding that healthcare should be that accessible everywhere.

Others pointed to their own experiences. One commenter said they had undergone a medical test in India for a fraction of the cost in the United States. Another said navigating insurance coverage in the U.S. was often a major challenge.

The discussion also included users noting that while people in India often criticize the healthcare system, international comparisons highlight areas where it performs effectively, particularly in accessibility and affordability.
