The US State Department is postponing H-1B visa interviews in India slated for later this month, owing to increased scrutiny over the new social media scrutiny guidelines, as per a report by Bloomberg Law.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration revealed plans to initiate social media vetting for H-1B visa applicants and their family members on dependent visas, broadening a review process for online profiles that first targeted student visa holders earlier in the year.

The heightened scrutiny is now delaying interviews originally set for mid-to-late December until as late as next summer. As a result, many H-1B workers needing fresh visa stamps may be stuck outside the U.S. for months awaiting new appointment dates.

The US Embassy in India warned on X Tuesday that applicants who arrive at their original appointment times will be "denied admittance to the Embassy or Consulate.”

H-1B workers seeking to renew visa stamps can no longer book appointments outside India. In September, the State Department announced that temporary visa holders must now attend interviews only in their country of nationality or residence, adding yet another hurdle for applicants.
