Vikrant Thakur confesses after wife’s murder charge

Vikrant Thakur reportedly made this admission following the advice of his lawyer.

Vikrant Thakur, who was charged with the murder of his wife, Supriya Thakur, has admitted to killing her in a shocking confession in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Jan. 14.

Supriya, 36, was found dead at a residence in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, Australia, on Dec. 21 after authorities responded to reports of a domestic assault.

Vikrant was reportedly apprehended at the scene and has been charged with murder. The 41-year-old Indian appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Dec 22. but did not seek bail.

He appeared in court virtually while still in custody for the murder charge, and admitted to taking his wife’s life, but entered a plea of guilty to manslaughter and not guilty to murder, according to ABC News.

Vikrant reportedly made this admission following the advice of his lawyer, James Marcus.

Ahead of his confession, prosecutors had requested that the court adjourn the matter for 16 weeks, reportedly citing pending evidence, including a post-mortem report and DNA results.

Now, with this major admission by Vikrant this week, the case will next return to court in April.

An anonymously set up fundraiser by Supriya’s friends and community members on GoFundMe has collected over $11,000 in donations for her son.

According to the GoFundMe page, Supriya worked long hours and aspired to become a registered nurse, fueled by her desire to help people and make a better future for her son.
