The University of Chicago’s South Asian Students Association (SASA) is set to stage its largest annual cultural event on March 28.

The showcase, highlighting South Asian identity and culture, is scheduled from 7:30 PM to 10 PM in the university's Mandel Hall.

According to the show’s trailer, the main piece of the theme of this year’s showcase is the “Mummy-Daddy Trap.”

The show will also feature a full day of related programming. A ‘South Asian Small Business Vendor Marketplace’ will run from 4 PM to 7 PM, followed by the ‘SASA Show Dinner’ from 5 PM to 7 PM.

According to the official university events page, the show will feature regional dances and musical performances from South Asia, movies, and live acting, which are all produced, directed, and choreographed by students.

The SASA Show has historically served as a platform for students to showcase diverse South Asian artistic traditions on campus.

Past participants have described it as a great way to form connections with the wider South Asian community on campus while learning about their culture.

Growing up, I did not have any South Asian friends, so I felt like that part of my culture and identity was restricted to my family and home. But, after joining SASA, I finally got to experience the joy of sharing that side of myself. Being able to sing, dance, and act in my last show is a real celebration of the unforgettable people I’ve met and the experiences we have had over the last four years,” a 2019 batch senior said.

“I love the SASA show because it's an inclusive space for people to showcase their South Asian heritage and / or learn something about South Asian culture. It's also in general just a really fun event for everyone in the UChicago community to enjoy!” a 2020 participant said.
