Indian comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey, Canada, was targeted for the third time in three months after unidentified gunmen opened fire early on the morning of Oct. 17.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting through social media posts that also included threats directed toward Bollywood figures. No injuries were reported, though employees were inside the cafe during the attack.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said it received reports of gunfire around 3:43 a.m. at Kap’s cafe on 120 Street in the Newton area. Officers discovered multiple bullet holes in the restaurant’s walls and windows.

A short video circulating online appeared to show shots being fired from a moving vehicle toward the cafe. “The incident is still under investigation,” the SPS said, declining to confirm whether the shooting was linked to extortion attempts.
Kap’s Cafe, located in a mixed-use building, had recently reopened following two previous attacks. The first occurred in early July, when a gunman wearing a body camera fired at the property, later claimed by Harjeet Singh Laddi of Babbar Khalsa International.
The second incident on Aug. 7 was linked to the Bishnoi gang, which posted a Hindi message online accepting responsibility and warning of further actions in Mumbai.
Following the Oct. 17 shooting, a now-deleted social media post attributed to Kulvir Sidhu read, “Today’s firing at Kap’s Cafe, Surrey, was carried out by me, Kulvir Sidhu, and Goldy Dhillon. We have no grudge with the general public. Those who owe us or cheat us will be warned. Those from Bollywood who speak against our religion should also be prepared; bullets can come from anywhere.”
The repeated shootings have raised alarms over the reach of Indian organized crime groups operating in Canada. Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke visited the cafe following its reopening, expressing solidarity with the affected business community. Sharma and his representatives have not issued any public statement.
The Government of Canada recently listed the Bishnoi Gang as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code. The Canadian Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, had said that specific communities have been targeted for terror, violence and intimidation by the Bishnoi Gang.
In a statement, the Government of Canada had mentioned that the Bishnoi Gang has a presence in Canada and is active in areas with significant diaspora communities.
