JJ Singh, a Democrat, won re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates from the 26th District on Nov. 4, defeating Republican challenger Ommair N. Butt. Singh received 19,776 votes, or 69.09 percent, while Butt garnered 8,766 votes, or 30.62 percent. There were 83 write-in votes, accounting for 0.29 percent of the total.
Following his victory, Singh thanked supporters across his district. “Thank you to all my supporters and volunteers in Brambleton, Arcola, Aldie, and South Riding for sending me back to Richmond to fight for you!” he wrote on X.
He added, “As I like to tell my girls, in Loudoun County, and in Virginia, anything is possible.”
The Virginia House Democrats congratulated Singh on social media, writing, “Congratulations, @SinghforVA, on your re-election! Virginia Democrats are ready to keep delivering for working families across the Commonwealth.”
A son of Indian immigrants, Singh was born and raised in Northern Virginia, where he now lives with his wife and two daughters. His parents, he has said, taught him the importance of hard work, service, and perseverance.
Before entering state politics, Singh worked in the Peace Corps in Bolivia, served as a senior U.S. Senate advisor helping to advance legislation in a divided Congress, and ran a small business.
With his re-election, Singh will continue representing the 26th District, which includes communities such as Brambleton, Arcola, Aldie, and South Riding, in the Virginia House of Delegates.
