Vice President JD Vance joined Second Lady Usha Vance for a Father’s Day episode of her “Storytime with the Second Lady” podcast.
The nearly 18-minute episode offered a glimpse into the family’s life at home as Vance read a chapter from the classic children’s book Winnie-the-Pooh and discussed fatherhood, reading habits, family life and his responsibilities in office.

Asked by Usha Vance to explain the vice president's job to young viewers, Vance said he serves under "a president who gives me a lot of responsibility," describing his constitutional duty to break tie votes in the Senate and his role in diplomatic engagements abroad.
"If there's a 50/50 tie in the Senate, then I have to break the tie," Vance said, adding that he also travels to meet foreign leaders and discuss ways to resolve disagreements between nations.
The Vice President also spoke about reading to the couple's children, saying it has become a regular part of family life. The couple have three children and are expecting a fourth.
"Obviously, we have a fourth on the way, which we're very excited about," he said while discussing the family's reading routines. Vance joked that one reason he wanted another child was because he was "not yet ready to be out of the baby phase."
During the episode, Vance read the opening chapter of A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh, pausing occasionally to discuss the story with his wife. Reflecting on the book afterward, he said he now appreciates aspects of the story that he overlooked as a child.
"Something I really love about this story, which I never really noticed when I was little, is that it's a dad telling a son's stories about himself," Vance said.
The couple also discussed the imaginative stories they create for their own children. Vance revealed that he is currently telling them a long-running adventure story involving their children and family dog, Atlas, battling "an army of invading space aliens."
Second Lady Usha Vance launched Storytime with the Second Lady earlier this year as part of an effort to promote childhood literacy and encourage reading among young Americans.
The podcast features guest readers sharing children's books and discussing the importance of reading. Usha Vance has said the initiative was inspired in part by her experience teaching her own children to read and concerns about declining literacy rates among students.
Promoting the Father's Day episode on social media, Usha Vance joked about recent attention to her maternity wardrobe.
"Now that we know the political significance of my $8.75 coral maternity dress from Old Navy, can't wait to hear what the New York Times has to say about my elastic-waistband pants and compression socks!" she wrote.
She encouraged families to watch the episode, adding: "In the meantime, enjoy my pregnancy fashion (or lack thereof) and a good story with your kids on Storytime with the Second Lady."
The episode concluded with Vance wishing viewers a happy summer and encouraging children to spend time reading with their fathers and grandfathers.
"I bet all of you at home could make your dads or grandfathers very happy by sharing a book with them today," Usha Vance said. "What a perfect way to spend Father's Day."
The appearance comes ahead of the release of Vance's memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, which chronicles his conversion to Catholicism in 2019 and explores the role of faith, marriage and family in his personal life. Vance has said his wife played a significant role in that journey.
