U.S. authorities have arrested an Indian-origin man for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 from the state while working two jobs.
According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Mehul A. Goswami, 39, of Latham, New York, was employed remotely by the New York State Office of Information Technology Services while simultaneously working another full-time job in the town of Malta.

The alleged conduct resulted in financial losses to the state exceeding $50,000. He faces charges of grand larceny in the second degree, a class C felony.
The arrest on Oct. 15 followed a joint investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Inspector General’s Office.
“Public employees are entrusted with the responsibility to serve with integrity, and Goswami’s alleged conduct represents a serious breach of that trust,” said New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang. “Working a second, full-time job while claiming to be working for the State is an abuse of public resources, including taxpayer dollars,” she added.
Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo commended the interagency coordination, stating, “This is a perfect example of the power of collaboration, and we look forward to this case’s successful resolution in court.”
Goswami was arraigned before Judge James A. Fauci in Malta Town Court and released on his own recognizance. Under New York’s bail reform laws, the charge is not considered a qualifying offense for bail.
He now faces up to 15 years in prison, the maximum penalty for a class C felony of this type under New York law. Investigators say the dual-employment scheme allegedly ran from March 2022 until September 2025.
