An Indian man identified as Tarsem Singh was indicted March 23 and faces multiple felony charges in Ohio after a high-speed police chase ended in a fatal crash in Darke County.

Singh was reportedly driving at 100 mph when his vehicle, a Range Rover Velar, crashed, resulting in the deaths of 17-year-old pregnant passenger Ashlee Holmes and her unborn child.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a post on X that Singh fled from police before the crash.

“Indian criminal illegal alien Tarsem Singh’s crash injuries are slight compared [to] those of his 17-year-old pregnant passenger Ashlee Holmes and her unborn child, who were allegedly thrown from his Range Rover and killed when he crashed after fleeing from Ohio police at 100 mph,” the agency wrote.

According to a report by WDTN, a deputy clocked the Range Rover traveling at high speed. The vehicle allegedly accelerated instead of stopping, leading to a head-on collision with another vehicle.

Holmes, of Sidney, Ohio, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Singh is being held on a $1 million bond and faces charges including two counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of reckless homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

Several reports said Singh has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also said an immigration detainer has been placed on Singh.

“The immigration detainer we placed on him will ensure he faces deportation proceedings after he faces justice … without being released into the community,” the agency said.
