The India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB) will hold its annual Republic Day Mela 2026 on Jan. 24 at Burlington High School.

The event, regarded as one of New England’s largest Indian American gatherings, comes against the backdrop of a statewide proclamation by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, declaring Jan. 26 as Republic Day of India in the Commonwealth.

The proclamation recognizes India’s democratic legacy and acknowledges the contributions of the Indian American community to Massachusetts’ civic and cultural life.

This year’s mela will be organized around the theme 'India in Harmony – The Five Elements,' which will be showcased through classical, folk, and contemporary performances. Organizers said more than 300 artists are expected to perform, alongside over 150 participants competing across various categories.

Several community and civic leaders are expected to attend the event. The chief guest will be Purnanand Sarma, CEO of Aro Biotherapeutics and president of TiE Boston. Girish Mehta, founder and executive director of the Indian Cultural Center, will be honored with the Community Catalyst Award.

Guests of honor include Shruthi Purushotam, Deputy Consul General of India in Boston, and Manju Sheth, president of India New England Multimedia and Women Who Win.

“We are honored to celebrate Republic Day with our community, especially in a year marked by the Governor’s Proclamation,” said IAGB president Nilesh Agrawal. Vice president Deepak Garg said the event reflects collective participation across generations. “This event beautifully blends tradition, creativity, and community pride,” he said.

The program will also involve more than 30 partner organizations from across New England, reflecting the region’s growing and diverse Indian American population.

The event begins with competitions, followed by a prize distribution ceremony. Cultural performances are scheduled to follow, culminating in a live performance by Dhwani Band.

Food will be available for purchase on-site from The Treasury: Indian & Greek Kitchen, according to organizers.
