GOPIO celebrates 20th anniversary with annual gala in Connecticut

The event also recognized distinguished Indian American community leaders for their excellence and achievements

GOPIO-Connecticut chapter hosted its annual gala on June 13 in Darien, Connecticut, marking the chapter's 20th anniversary.

GOPIO-CT described the event as a day of celebration and a day to honor excellence while supporting initiatives that empower youth.

Apart from the members of GOPIO-CT and other community members, the celebration was also attended by Deputy Consul General of India in New York Vishal J. Harsh. In his remarks, he highlighted the significant contributions of the Indian American community in strengthening the India-US partnership.

The event also recognized distinguished Indian American community leaders for their excellence and achievements in entrepreneurship, corporate leadership, journalism, academia, engineering, and community service as part of the awards banquet.

GOPIO noted that the event stood as a networking opportunity with fellow attendees, dignitaries, award recipients, and professional achievers.

The event was attended by Connecticut state Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox and Tony Hwang, along with Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson.

The Indian Consulate in New York hailed the political leaders for their "continued support of the Indian American community and their encouragement for the strong ties between India and the U.S."

The Consulate also hailed GOPIO Founder-President Thomas Abraham and GOPIO-CT President Mahesh Jhangrani for "their dedicated efforts in organizing the event."

The event featured attendees clad in black-tie formalwear or Indian attire and featured Bollywood dancing and an Indian culinary experience.
