The Republican Party of Milwaukee County has canceled the membership of former secretary Purnima Nath, citing a misalignment of values.
According to Nath, who is a practicing Hindu, the party terminated her in an attempt to silence her independent voice within the party.
"Let me be clear: Disagreement is not disloyalty. Independent thinking is not extremism," said Nath on X.

My offence? I refuse blind allegiance to any cult and propaganda machine. I question policies. I demand accountability. I serve people over propaganda.

Nath claimed her "offence" was refusing "blind allegiance to any cult and propaganda machine," adding that she questions policies, demands accountability, and serves "people over propaganda."
She further added that she has reached out to the Wisconsin GOP to seek clarity and appeal what she views as "intimidation toward an independent and principled Republican voice."
The incident drew attention to broader tensions, with Nath highlighting constant racist rhetoric she faces, such as "go back to India" and "you’ll be deported."
She emphasized that such an "inferior and divisive mentality" is unacceptable, asserting, "America belongs to people of all colour, race, religion, faith, ethnicity and background."
Nath warned of a "growing push in parts of our politics toward white religious christian supremacist homogenous society and cultural exclusion," which she said betrays the U.S. Constitution's guarantees of religious freedom and equal protection.
Her post quoted an article that described the expulsion as highlighting "a hard reality of U.S. politics," where leaders appear "pro-Christian first and politicians later."
The article noted similar experiences for other Hindu figures, such as Vivek Ramaswamy being mocked for his faith and Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley renouncing their Hindu roots, urging Hindus to note "the religious bias that can exist in American politics."
Nath staunchly concluded, "I will not capitulate. I will not be silenced. I will not reduce myself to a pawn in anyone’s power game. Principle over power. People over politics."
Nath has run multiple times as a Republican candidate, including for U.S. House (Wisconsin's 4th District in the 2024 primary), Wisconsin State Assembly (District 23), Milwaukee County Executive (2020), and Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.
She served as elected secretary of the Milwaukee County Republican Party and as an alternate delegate to the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
