FIA New England donates to Newton pantry
Volunteers, led by the executive team, coordinated collection and delivery of food donations to Newton, balancing professional and personal commitments to support local families.

The Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA)–New England donated a large quantity of non-perishable food items to the Newton Food Pantry on Oct. 26.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the donation event was attended by Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, who highlighted the contribution of the Indian-American community in supporting families facing food insecurity amid concerns over SNAP program funding during the government shutdown.

The ceremony was also attended by UIANE leaders Neela Gandhi and Aanch Jain, FIA board member Jyoti Singh, Saheli vice president Aditi Soni, and several other community figures, reflecting collaboration within the local Indian-American community.

The initiative was organized by the FIA Executive Team, including vice presidents Rakesh and Deepti Kavsari, Amol Penshanwar, Santosh Thawani, Hiten Bhawsar, Mohan Krishna Sonti, Devesh Singh Raghwanshi, and Rakesh Soni, who coordinated collection and delivery of donations alongside their personal and professional commitments.
The food drive was aligned with UIANE’s Diwali Celebration, framing the Festival of Lights as a “Festival of Giving.”
FIA president Abhishek Singh said, “We are immensely proud of our volunteers and supporters. Their selfless dedication—spending weekdays and weekends collecting, loading, and delivering food—truly reflects the spirit of service and compassion that defines our community.” Singh also thanked donors and supporters whose contributions made the initiative possible.
The dontion is part of the organization's Diwali/Holiday Season Food Drive, which aims to donate over 20,000 pounds of non-perishable food items across Rhode Island and the New England region within the next month.
