Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi highlighted the need for H-1B visas and immigrations in a recent interview with Biden era White House advisor Ajay Jain Bhutoria.

Krishnamoorthi, a Democratic Congressman who represents Illinois' 8th district, spoke about a host of issues that concern the Indian diaspora community and called for reform in a variety of sectors including skill training and Visa policies.

The Congressman echoed President Donald Trump's recent stance on H-1B visas and acknowledged that the country cannot function without immigrants.

He said, "This country cannot run without immigrants and it can't run without H-1B or without other high skilled talent, and so we just have to be candid about this."

However, he also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the indigenous workforce is not left behind. The Congressman argued that the country is not skilling the workforce for the jobs that exist today or for the jobs of the future, noting, "if you do not onshore the talent, you will offshore the jobs. That's just the way of the world."

He added, "No company is going to wait around for you to have the right skills. Instead they're going to send the work overseas."

Krishnamoorthi also highlighted the significance of skills based training and said, "Our skills based education system is not world class. It needs to be."

He added, "So if I'm a U.S. senator, I will try to double the funding for that type of education. Because we need to do everything we can to make sure that local talent has the skills to compete in the 21st century economy."

Anti-India hate

Talking to Bhutoria, the Congressman also addressed the growing anti-India narrative that is observed. Citing examples of such instances, he said, "Kash Patel put a 'Happy Diwali' greeting on his Instagram and he was flooded with anti-Hindu and anti-Indian hate. You see J.D. Vance, unfortunately, going out there and talking about how he wants his wife to convert to Christianity."

Krishnamoorthy expressed his objection to the growing rhetoric and highlighted the need for standing together in such times. He said, "we want our children to be secure in who they are and that's why it's important for us to band together against all forms of hatred."

Talking about what is next for his party, he alleged that Trump came to power talking about cheaper groceries, cheaper electricity and cheaper healthcare but people ended up facing higher prices for everything and therefore "people are very upset".

He also credited the recent Democratic success to this public sentiment and said, "that's why, just a few weeks ago in the election, Democrats did so well. Now, going forward, I'm hopeful that we can continue to make progress. And that we eventually take back the House, the Senate, and of course, Project 2028 is taking back the White House."
