The Consulate General of India in Toronto has recently announced the establishment of “One Stop Centre for Women” (OSCW), a support centre exclusively dedicated to assisting female Indian nationals in distress.
The centre aims to provide support to Indian passport holders only in cases pertaining to domestic violence, abuse, family conflict, abandonment, exploitation, and legal challenges, among others.

In the official press release, CGI Toronto mentions that OSCW will provide coordinated, beneficiary-centred assistance by connecting aggrieved women to timely and appropriate pathways of support, including immediate counselling, facilitation of psycho-social support, and coordination of legal assistance and advice.
The centre is also focused on helping women access relevant community and social-service resources in Canada.
The entire intervention by the OSCW will be within the purview of Local Laws in Canada.
The centre would be led by a female Centre Administrator, who will ensure the delivery of safe, dignified, and comprehensive assistance to women in need, on means tested basis, through swift handling of distress calls through a 24x7 helpline.
The centre will also offer counselling and emotional support through empanelled NGOs and all the financial assistance will be on means tested basis as per the Government of India’s Rules.
