The Bay Area Telugu Association (BATA) organized a day-long Ugadi celebration on March 21 in Milpitas, California, bringing together the community to commemorate Indian culture and traditions.

This year’s celebration marked a significant milestone, being the 25th anniversary of BATA’s youth talent competitions, and over 600 young participants showcased their skills.

Ugadi, also known as Samvatsarādi, is the first day of the year on the Hindu calendar and is traditionally celebrated by the Kannadigas and Telugu people in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana, along with the diaspora communities across the world.

The festivities in Milpitas began at 9:00 a.m. and continued through 10:00 p.m., with the daytime program featuring youth competitions in singing and dance across multiple categories, including Tollywood, classical, and folk.

The event was attended by kids, youth, and adults, with the venue decorated in vibrant colors, matching the festive vibe of Ugadi celebrations.

Traditional Ugadi pachadi was served at the event.

The evening program was themed around the golden era of 1990s Telugu cinema and included performances from all age groups. For the grand finale, Tollywood playback singer Anjana Sowmya delivered a musical performance of Telugu songs.

The event was also attended by several distinguished guests, including Abhishek Sharma from the Consulate General of India in San Francisco, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, Fremont City Mayor Raj Salwan, and Milpitas City Mayor Carmen Montano, who joined the celebrations, addressed the gathering, and extended their Ugadi greetings to attendees.

Along with cultural celebrations, BATA organized a parallel track focused on immigration topics, featuring local legal experts, Attorneys Navdeep Toor Meamber and Manohar T Reddy, who discussed "Protect Your Status: 2026 Immigration Updates for Professionals and Families", and Attorneys Kalpana V Peddibhotla and Komey Vishakan discussed "Home and Belonging: The South Asian Future in America".

The event also featured an exhibition area with several vendor booths showcasing clothing, jewelry, fashion, investments, education, and real estate services.

BATA President Siva K. extended his gratitude and thanked the attendees, participants, vendors, sponsors, and volunteers for their support and contribution to the event.
