Anantharam Raghuram / Fordham University
Anantharam Raghuram, an Indian American mathematician at Fordham University, has been named a 2026 Simons Fellow in Mathematics, the Simons Foundation announced April 10.
The fellowship supports sabbatical research leaves for mathematicians, allowing recipients to extend a single-term leave into a full academic year. The program is administered by the Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences division and funded by Simons Foundation International.
Raghuram is associate chair and professor of mathematics at Fordham’s Lincoln Center campus. A number theorist, he has worked in both the United States and India across academic and research institutions.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and a Ph.D. in mathematics from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
Raghuram held postdoctoral positions at the University of Toronto, Purdue University and the University of Iowa before joining Oklahoma State University. He received tenure there in 2011 as an associate professor.
He later served as the first chair of mathematics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune and was named a distinguished honorary professor at his alma mater, IIT Kanpur.
Raghuram is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy.
The Simons Fellows program provides funding to support research productivity during sabbaticals, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration and advancing work in mathematics.
