The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO)’s Manhattan chapter celebrated International Day of Yoga on June 22. The virtual celebration was organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in New York, Happy Life Yoga, The Indian Panorama and the Indian American Forum.
The Zoom-based event was led by Happy Life Yoga speaker and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Tirlok Malik.
Yoga Day Celebration on Zoom has been an annual event for the last 4 years.
Consul General of India in New York Shri Binaya Srikanta Pradhan in his message welcomed the diaspora and encouraged them to practice Yoga in their day-to-day lives.
GOPIO International Chairman Dr. Thomas Abraham, who serves as an advisor to GOPIO-Manhattan, in his welcome address, spoke about the objectives of GOPIO and urged those who are not members yet to join the GOPIO International organization or a nearby chapter.
The theme for this year's celebration was, 'How to stay peaceful and happy in the midst of the world today?'
GOPIO International President Prakash Shah spoke about Yoga being a part of the monthly events organized by GOPIO chapters locally to engage and enrich the diaspora.
Among the list of speakers were Professor Chief Editor of The Indian Panorama Indrajit Saluja, Chairperson of the Indian American Forum Indu Jaiswal, President of GOPIO New York Beena Kothari, Giving Back Foundation Founder and CEO Meera Gandhi, Lotus in the MUD Founder Parveen Chopra, Vegan Ambassador Anil Narang, Journalist Dr. Renee Mehrra, Young Filmmaker Sneha Jain and Neha Lohia.
Participants including Global Peace Secretariat Founder and Social Activist Kumu Gupta, AIA National President Gobind Munjal, GOPIO Woman’s Council Co-Chair Jayashri Chintalapudi and GOPIO Life Member and community leader from New Zealand Suman Kapoor, attended the Zoom session.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by GOPIO International Secretary Siddharth Jain.
