An Indian couple faced a disturbing racist encounter in the United States, as captured in a video that has sparked significant backlash across social media platforms.

The video, which has been widely shared online, shows a man recording from inside a car as he questions the couple about their nationality before launching into a tirade about their presence in the United States.

The exact location and circumstances of the incident have not been independently verified.

In the footage, the man asks the couple whether they are from India. After they confirm that they are, he proceeds to ask whether India or the United States is the better country.

The Indian man responds calmly, saying that both countries have their advantages and noting that family members live in India. When asked why they were in the United States if India was so good, the couple replied that they were there “to explore the world.”

The exchange then turned hostile.

“No, we don't want you here. You have to go home. Get the f*** out of my country,” the man is heard saying in the video.

Despite the inflammatory remarks, the couple remained composed and did not engage in an argument.

The video was shared on X by a user identified as Tone, who captioned the post: “I encountered some incredible H-1B Indians, and I had to let them know something!”

The clip quickly went viral, drawing condemnation from many social media users who described the encounter as racist and discriminatory.

One user responded, “Your country? This isn’t your country. Go back to Europe.”

Others highlighted the contributions of Indian immigrants to American society.

“Indian Americans are ~1% of the U.S. population yet among the highest earners and taxpayers powering hospitals, tech, research, and businesses. Meanwhile a guy driving around filming/intimidating strangers thinks he contributes more to America. Ignorance isn’t patriotism!” another user wrote.

While the post attracted hostile comments targeting immigrants, several users pointed out that immigrants, students and skilled workers enter the United States through legal channels, including government-issued visas, and questioned why individuals were being singled out because of their nationality or ethnicity.

The incident has reignited discussions about racism and xenophobia faced by immigrants and visitors in the United States. Many users praised the couple for remaining calm during the confrontation, while others argued that such behavior should be challenged more directly rather than ignored.

Some social media users tagged Marco Rubio while sharing the video. During a previous visit to India, Rubio had acknowledged that racist remarks can occur in every country while maintaining that the United States remains a welcoming nation overall.

The verified account that posted the video has previously shared content mocking Indians, including videos filmed inside an Indian restaurant, according to screenshots and posts circulated online.
