Rakhi Israni, a democratic candidate for the primary in California’s 14th congressional district, said she will not be a ceremonial representative of the Indian American community in the legislature but an active policymaker focused on advocacy, governance, and outcomes.

Speaking on an episode of the Rooted and Roaming podcast, Israni said, “My commitment actually to the Indian American community is to be a real voice for the community in Congress, not a ceremonial one. Actually advocating for things that are not only good for our community, but that are good for the larger community as well, that bring prosperity to everybody.”
