To mark the occasion, a special reception was hosted by the Consulate at the State Capitol in Olympia, where several State Senators, members of the Washington State House of Representatives, and dignitaries were in attendance.

Several states of the U.S. Northwest, in the Consulate’s jurisdiction, including Alaska, Nebraska, Washington, Oregon, and South Dakota, issued proclamations honouring the Republic Day celebrations by the Consulate.

Governors and dignitaries of the U.S. Pacific Northwest region congratulated India.

U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier of Washington’s 8th Congressional District said,

“On behalf of the people of Washington, I wish all of you a happy Republic Day as bright as your tricolor flag and as meaningful as the values and freedoms that your democracy represents. May the friendship between our peoples continue to grow ever stronger in the years ahead.”

Two separate events were hosted by the Consulate on Jan. 26, with the Consul General hoisting the Indian tricolour atop the Federal Reserve building in downtown Seattle and reading excerpts from the President’s address.

Mayor of Seattle Katie Wilson and a 30-member delegation from Montana were a part of the occasion as guests of honour.

The celebrations featured performances of patriotic poems and a traditional Kuchipudi dance.
