The University of Texas (UT) system board of regents has officially appointed Prabhas V. Moghe as the next president of The University of Texas at Dallas, effective August 2, 2025.
The announcement, made May 30 by the UT system office of media relations and communications, follows his earlier designation as the sole finalist for the position.

“With Moghe’s distinguished background as an educator, researcher and administrator, UTD is poised to continue its great trajectory forward,” the University said in a statement.
Moghe, who serves as the current executive vice president for academic affairs (EVPAA) at Rutgers University, brings with him a proven track record in advancing research, academic excellence, and institutional growth. Under his leadership, Rutgers experienced a 40 percent increase in research funding—rising from $689 million to nearly $1 billion—and jumped 22 spots in U.S. News & World Report’s public university rankings.
As EVPAA, Moghe led transformative initiatives at Rutgers, including the “Roadmaps for Collective Academic Excellence,” which fostered interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as AI, public health, policy, and business. He also represented Rutgers at the Association of American Universities and served on the Big Ten Academic Alliance Board.
Moghe will succeed president Richard Benson, who is stepping down after a nine-year tenure marked by significant growth in enrollment, research spending, and campus infrastructure.
Born and raised in India, Moghe earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the University of Bombay, a PhD in chemical engineering (bioengineering) from the University of Minnesota, and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
