Indian American Assemblymember Dr. Darshana Patel has named Interfaith Community Services as the 2025 Non-Profit of the Year for California’s 76th Assembly District.
The announcement was made from Sacramento on May 19, recognizing the Escondido-based nonprofit for its long-standing work supporting vulnerable populations across North San Diego County.
Founded in 1979 by 14 local faith communities, Interfaith has grown into the region’s largest provider of comprehensive social services. The organization currently operates more than 75 programs offering food, housing, healthcare, employment services, and long-term assistance to individuals and families in crisis.
"Interfaith Community Services reflects the compassion, dignity, and sense of community that define our district," said Assemblymember Patel.
She added, “Whether it's emergency shelter, permanent housing, hot meals, or healthcare navigation, Interfaith meets urgent needs and helps people rebuild their lives. Their work is essential to alleviating poverty and empowering those in San Diego County to achieve stability and upward mobility.”
Patel said she was proud to recognize the organization for its commitment to community well-being.
Interfaith, though secular, partners with a wide range of faith and civic groups to carry out its mission of expanding access to food, housing, safety, and healthcare. Its services include recovery and wellness programs, job training, housing assistance, and supportive care aimed at helping clients overcome systemic barriers and achieve independence.
Greg Angela, CEO of Interfaith Community Services, called the recognition a “profound honor.”
“To be recognized by Assemblymember Patel as Nonprofit of the Year in our 45th year of service to the North San Diego County region is a profound honor,” Angela said.
“At Interfaith, we lead with courage and compassion, stepping into complex challenges such as poverty and homelessness with the belief that real solutions are possible when we work together.”
Angela said the award is a reflection of the organization's strong partnerships and longstanding commitment to its mission.
“This recognition reflects the strength of our partnerships and the trust we’ve earned by being there, consistently providing critical resources to those facing some of life’s hardest moments,” he said. “We’re grateful to the Assemblymember and to every partner who shares in our work and our mission.”
