The U.S. Embassy in India announced the availability of thousands of student visa appointments across diplomatic missions in India.

The embassy shared this update via its official social media channels, accompanied by a digital poster stating, "Thousands of student visa appointments are available across MISSION INDIA." A link was also provided directing applicants to a webpage displaying visa appointment availability by country.

The announcement comes after a period of concern among Indian students, particularly from regions like Ahmedabad, where visa interview appointments had become scarce since mid-March 2025.

The sudden unavailability of slots had caused anxiety among students with impending university deadlines. This move aims to facilitate timely visa processing ahead of the Fall 2025 academic session.

In 2023, the U.S. issued over 140,000 student visas to Indians, marking a record for the third consecutive year and the highest number issued by U.S. consular services globally. The U.S. Mission in India also processed a record 1.4 million visas in 2023.

The embassy's recent efforts, including the opening of additional visa appointments, are part of a broader initiative to meet the surging demand for visas from Indian travelers. In September 2024, the U.S. Mission to India had opened an additional 250,000 visa appointments for Indian travelers, including tourists, skilled workers, and students.
